The Ensemble Clément perform their "François 1er - Charles Quint, Enemies of State" programme in the Rencontres Internationales de Musique médiévale du Thoronet. The programme is inspired by the rivality between these two monarchs and alternates war songs and lamentations around Janequin's Messe la Bataille and the Missa L’Homme armé by Cristobald de Morales, a leading figure of Spanish polyphony. Josquin Despres, Clemens Non Papa, and Claudin de Sermizy, other major composers of this truely Golden Age of Renaissance music complete the programme.
