Kenneth Weiss gives a recital based on his “A Cleare Day” recording in the Pontoise Baroque Festival.
The keyboard repertoire of the late Tudor and early Jacobean period is breathtakingly virtuosic. It was only given the name "virginalist" in the 19th century. The programme is in chronological order and shows the evolution of this first and most idiomatic keyboard language, at the same time as the particular and innovative ideas of each of the composers.
