Haydn’s Op. 55 No. 3, created in 1788, uses turbulent chromatic harmonies to evoke strong inner feelings. The London Haydn Quartet, one of the world’s leading period-instrument chamber groups, performs the work in company with Beethoven’s ‘Harp’ Quartet, written soon after Haydn’s death in 1809 as a tribute to the late composer’s remarkable artistic legacy. Wigmore Hall, 1st May at 11.30 am.
