The Ensemble Clément has been invited by Philippe Maillard Productions to perform its colourful Mousse et Pampre programme at the Salle Cortot in Paris. "The Janequins" will sing tales of love and drunkenness. But beware, you will be spared nothing - orgies, feasts, heraldic representations of the female body, and much more!
In 1978, the countertenor Dominique Visse brought together a group of singers to explore the vast corpus of the Renaissance polyphonic chanson. The works of Clément Janequin (of course), Josquin Desprez and Roland de Lassus suddenly came to life with a new vitality: the lively vocal clarity of "The Janequin's" performances rapidly became benchmark interpretations, unequalled to this day. No other ensemble has managed to interpret the secular music of the Renaissance with the same French esprit of the grand tradition of Rabelais, at once gourmand and saucy, simple yet sophisticated, funny and tragic.
Nearly five decades later the Ensemble remains faithful to its legendary reputation. With a programme that is emblematic of its exemplary career, Dominique Visse and his troops will serve up a brilliant reminder of just how much the music world owes them.
